Comics & Collectibles
Why are we Michigan’s premier summer comic convention? At our 2022 event, we filled the Lansing Center in Downtown Lansing Michigan with over 200 exhibitor booths, filled with special guests, artists, vendors, publishers, cosplayers, charities, and more. We painstakingly curate our exhibitor hall to ensure we have a wide variety of quality vendors so attendees can find all their must-have comics and collectibles. In addition to vendors, CBCS grading services were available onsite to validate and grade.
In 2023, we have doubled the number of kids activities, increased our panel offerings, added new types of contests, added an entire tabletop gaming hall, we have more prizes, more events, more after hours activities and more celebrities.
Creators
In 2022 we hosted 27 special guests, including 11 comic book industry special guests, 4 anime voice actors, 3 classic cartoon voice actors, 5 on screen celebrities, and a few others. Artist Alley was another sell-out, with over 65 additional artists participating. Our juried selection allows attendees to find creators and comics for nearly any genre: superhero, sci-fi, manga, fantasy, romance, children’s, autobiographical, and the just plain weird.
For 2023, we have MORE special guests overall, MORE comic book industry guests, MORE on-screen celebrities. Our sold out Artist Alley creators are running and speaking in MORE panels and programming. Artist sketch-offs, SFX make-up demonstrations, brand new comics and novels and art and music all being debuted at our show… this is what makes us the premiere summer show!
Community
More than 15 local clubs, businesses and charities were represented at our 2019 fall event, including Capital Area District Library, Michigan Army National Guard, Capital Area Literacy Coalition, Lansing Derby Vixens, Children’s Miracle Network, the League of Enchantment, Saving Scales Reptile Rescue, and many others.
Each year, Capital City Comic Con donates a portion of available exhibit space to both local and national charities. Funds are raised for children’s hospitals, veterans groups and suicide prevention, among others. All our attendees deserve special thanks for donating generously to every worthy cause at our event.
Fully knowing the power comics have to ignite a hunger for reading, we have endeavored to support the pervasive issue of illiteracy in Greater Lansing by partnering with The Reading People at the Capital Area Literacy Coalition. A portion of our proceeds goes to this nonprofit organization each year. Their mission is to help both children and adults in the capital area learn to read, write and speak English.
In addition, we’re proud to have established the Capital City Comic Con Art Scholarship in 2016. The scholarship is offered exclusively to current students at Michigan State University to encourage the study of comic art. One scholarship will be awarded based on artistic merit of original artwork submissions as determined by a comprehensive jury.
